The Hollies Children’s Homes about us

As a former resident of The Hollies Children’s Home Sidcup Kent from 1952-65 I hold very strong views on the the life within the child care system.

My life in care I feel was very good in general with a but of course, there were times when maybe the punishment as a child did not always fit the so called crime but then in those early days it was called things like character building, making a man of me and of course the classic was This will hurt me more than it will hurt you yeah right I would think.

But I being a only child when entering The Hollies Children’s Home Sidcup Kent (formerly known as The Lamorbey Children’s Home) very soon had a large ever changing family who in later life after leaving care I began to wonder what had happened to them? as I had never met any again. Since being involved with The Hollies Children’s Home Reunion Group I have been able to meet many of my old friends again and find ladies who were then only young girls that had been given the job of looking after me at the age of just 3 years old, I guess what I am saying is groups such as this can and do work people.

We feel from the many contacts that there is a need for such a group for former residents form the care system and the staff, and we know the The Hollies children’s home reunion group works for so many people.
